A frustrating development with the growing lack of reading comprehension I've personally noticed is an emerging fervor of insisting things aren't canon unless they are explicitly stated beyond all reasonable doubt.

I can not emphasize enough how harmful a mindset this is to have. Yes, it's wonderful to have characters outright say "I'm trans," but to deny a character's identity for not saying that is dangerous.

Plenty of real people prefer not to use specific labels. Historically, people didn't have our modern terms or modes of expression. Many modern cultures don't use these terms, either, and plenty of people within those that do can't safely openly identify.

If the only representation you accept as canon is within modern (and let's be honest, wealthy white able-bodied American) standards, then you are denying yourself and others a huge amount of representation and seriously limiting the media around you.

listen as someone who has a problem with obsessively picking my skin/wounds having a partner that will tell me to stop is important bc she notices i’m doing it when even i don’t so idk weird detail but i liked it and it’s weird that ppl equate caring for someone (stop picking/go to sleep and stop research binging/spiraling) to treating them like a child. buck was legitimately spiraling and tommy was like man put it down and go to sleep this isn’t helping and it’ll wait until tomorrow and sometimes a person needs that and it’s not a bad thing.

Okay but like I wonder if earth c has a genre of media thats just modern retellings / retellings/ Reimaginings of the events of the game but like the denizens of earth c treat those events like we treat mythology.

Like imagine if you will. Youre like, Dirk or someone right, and you hear about this niche indie folk group called the Machinations or whatever who pretend to be immortal space pirates. theyre supposed to do a lot of tragedies. Not really your scene but whatever.

Then you learn that apparently the bit of the game where you chop your head off and ship it to Jake for a smooch is a bonafide Myth, with all the Trappings of religious ceremony and discourse. Very weird to think about, but again, whatever.

Then you learn that the Machinations have Retold This Story. In song form. And youre like okay wait what bc theres an entire subset of people going wild over it so you listen and the song is a jaunty electroswing deal where a half feral Brittish man pretending to be you sings about needing a lil love to heat up along with the heat of the literal volcano

So you are now realizing theres an entire album of these things reimagining your creation of the entire universe as a 1920s esque bootlegging operation gone horrorterrors with cosmic horror somehow and you gotta wonder. What goes through your head there? Hope no one knows yet? Indifference? Annoyance that the sole rap number on the album was given to Jane and Gumshoe Gunshow ? like what do you as god do when people are writing highly marketable fanfiction about you

Another snippet from the MOTA 90s clubbing AU!

(This time featuring Curt/Ken and the extent to which I had to bend space and time to make the Jude Law joke work)

“Long way from home, cowboy,” Curt said as he pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and flipped the top open. “Want one?” He added, holding them up toward Gale, “they’re menthols.” Gale wasn’t usually one for smoking but his tongue was begging for something to do and he did like mint so he agreed, gingerly taking one out of the packet and holding it up for Curt to light.

“You wound me,” said Bucky from the opposite side of the table, holding one hand to his chest like a mother who’d just seen her child’s first tattoo. “You don’t want my smokes but you’ll take one from this…this... fiend.” “Oh, fiend, is it? That’s a new one,” Curt mumbled as Gale said,

“You didn’t offer.” “You don’t even drink!” Bucky spluttered, gesturing far too vigorously with his burning cigarette and earning a scornful look from the woman behind him. He shook his head mournfully. “I can’t believe this. I risk life and limb to get him in here and the first chance you get, you steal him away from me.” He pointed a finger from Gale to Curt. “He smokes menthols!” Bucky finished with a huff, crossing his arms and sticking out his lower lip in a petulant show of immaturity that shouldn’t have been nearly as endearing as it was. “Told you no-one wants to kiss a guy who smokes Lucky Strikes. How old are you, eighty?” Curt said with a shrug before turning to Gale. “They have character!” Bucky exclaimed. Curt just shook his head and turned back to Gale. “Though I hate to disappoint ya Buck but I got a feeling someone special is gonna be here tonight. So I’m afraid my heart belongs to another.” “The guy who looks like Jude law?” Bucky said, his eyebrows buried somewhere up in his hairline. “Dude, don’t do it. You totally struck out last time. I saw it, I wish I didn’t but I did and it was bad.” “Yeah but that doesn’t count because I don’t remember it.” Curt said as if that made any sense whatsoever. Then he stopped dead, his eyes taking on a slightly haunted look as he met Bucky’s gaze and said solemnly. “Never let me do G again.” “It’s not my fault some people can’t hack,” said Bucky before adding, “and to be fair it wasn’t all bad. I think he thought you were kinda funny, even after you started talking about how much you liked ‘Shopping’ which he had not seen because no-one except you and me have ever seen that movie and I only watched it because you made me… but then you started making that weird groaning noise and rubbing your palms on your jeans like a sex offender.” He paused for a second, the two of them cringing in unison, “Yeah...that was- that was rough, I’m not gonna lie, so probably don’t do that again.” “Don’t have to tell me,” Curt said, shaking his head to shake off the embarrassment, “That stuff is fuckin’ evil. I’ll be stickin’ with the classics from now on.”

BUT i did have a good day!! i went to dinner at my fav restaurant that i can only go to once a year.

the only gift i know i got was a gift card (bc im in another state until the 29th for work). i did get a pair of cow slippers + a planner + an elevated/slanted cat food bowl that cowboy seems to really like!! im gonna start using the planner (it's an UNDATED weekly planner which i'm so excited about) once i finish my current bujo.
